August Camp 2014

August 11-15

If your child has any requests for activities, please let me know soon.  If I can make their request happen I will.

Camp details will be updated as I make them or as requested.

Part 1)  Dissect and Disassemble THE MACHINE!

The star of the show! (Run mouse over image for details)

Disassembled machines will be displayed similar to this car.

Hand tools and power tools are our friends.  Especially when dismantling household appliances such as irons, toasters, coffee pots, and radios.  But they can be an even better friend when taking apart a hot water heater and riding lawnmower!

Some of what we will do/learn:

- how fun it is to wear safety gear (and maybe even lab coats!) while exploring dissection of machines. Safety while operating.

- that not all tools are created equally.  Some tools work better for a certain jobs than others.  Proper tool for the job.

- that being an artist is glorious but sometimes takes a bit of umph! and sweat. Making art isn’t always a piece of cake. (But it can sometimes taste like it!)

- how to lay out dissected machine parts to make an interesting display.

- reassemble machine into a sculpture.

- photography.  How to take an interesting photo of something to make it more interesting.

If you have any appliances you would like to donate for dissection let me know.

Camp includes activities and instruction from 9am - 4 pm.

We will be working inside The Radicle Root building 488 (the old post office), 444, and outside.

Four eighty eight is where we do planning and "clean" art, such as drawing.  Four forty four is a garage-like place where small to large power tools, such as saws and welders are located.  Kids may wear sandals but please pack close toed shoes as well.

We will spend a lot of time outside doing activities and breaks.

I am planning art tour trips for one (and maybe all)of the following:

-  the Mosaics of Morgantownart

-  cool architecture of Morgantown

-  historical Morgantown walk.

-  (something else fun)

Healthy snacks will be provided.

Pack a healthy lunch for your child. (Please be conscious of providing substantial nutritional content as well as packaging reduction and reuse  :-)

Please let me know of any alleries right away.

Cost of the camp is $145
